Marion County Animal Services operates out of the Animal Center and includes both animal center and animal control functions.
Animal Center
The center serves as a onestop resource for animal services where staff is responsible for the humane housing, care, redemption and adoption of unwanted, abandoned and stray domestic animals and livestock. Nearly 15,000 animals come through the center’s doors each year, brought by citizens who have found strays, by pet owners who no longer want their pets and by
animal control officers who seize the animals. Citizens can also take advantage of low-cost spay and neuter surgeries, rabies vaccines, county licenses and microchips for their pets at the Animal Center as well as through the Neuter Commuter.
Animal Control
A dedicated team of animal control officers enforce county ordinances and respond to nearly 10,000 animal-related calls annually. Officers are on-call for emergencies 24 hours a day and serve all of Marion County, including the City of Ocala, rescuing injured, sick or stray domestic animals. Officers also investigate aggressive attacks as well as animal cruelties that range from one-animal cases to large-scale incidents involving hundreds of animals.
